Re: forcing oneself to run longer?
you'd be surprised at how far you can push the human body. but for training purposes it is probably not recommended to push your body past its limits

Re: forcing oneself to run longer?
Most runners stop running when they are only 70 to 80 percent exhausted. My XC coach in high school used to tell us that if we didn't want to throw up, we hadn't run hard enough.
It's possible that running to pace with a faster runner could result in over use injuries if you do it on a frequent basis, but pacing once a week with a mate shouldn't give you too much trouble. |

Re: forcing oneself to run longer?
It helps me, and a lot of people I know to listen to music when your run. You might already do this, if you don't, just make a playlist of music you like, and think would be good to run to; it will help push you until you get your second wind.

Re: forcing oneself to run longer?
The point is: how much is "as much as I can"? and how much stronger is your partner?
If you are lazy, it is recommended to run with a slightly stronger runner. But just slightly! If you run with a pro-runner you will get one result only: injuries, and loss of self-confidence. |

Re: forcing oneself to run longer?
yea, at some point your body will being to fatigue, and when this happens, your running form will fall apart, because you will be forced to compensate with different muscles. This is why lots of runners after a while look terrible, knees twisted out, back arched, arms flailing, etc. At that point, to keep going is only training bad form and risking injury. i would suggest only training up to the point where you start to lose good running form.
