As far as new training techniques though, one my coach gives us sometimes, he calls it a lactic acid workout, something like...
Sprint all out 300m, 20 sec rest, then 90% 600m
repeat at least 4 times with 2 minutes between sets
Also, other similar workouts that let your body get used to pushing past a normal point of exertion.
