1. Don't lift by bending over. Lift an object by bending your hips and knees and then squatting to pick up the object.
2. Keep your back straight and hold the object close to your body. Avoid twisting your body while lifting.
3. Push rather than pull when you must move heavy objects.
4. If you must sit at your desk or at the wheel of a car or truck for long hours, break up the time with stops to stretch.
5. Think about your posture.

Good tips actually.

I lift my disabled wife 40 plus times aday. So it is important to practice proper lifting techniques.

Hi Mathew,
The post is informative. Back strain often occurs all of a sudden by such careless mistakes. If an object can be pushed, avoid pulling it. Avoid such simple mistakes lower the spine strain. Stress increases the risk of muscles. Sitting for long hours compress the spine leading to spine disc problems.

I always suffered from back pain from an old rugby injury but running along with back extensions in the gym have worked wonders.

well Don't stay in one place for too long. Muscles become fatigued and struggled when they are held in one place (contracted) too long. Changing places will move the workload to distinct muscles.
