So i've heard that a high carb diet is actually recommended for runners. Is this true?
Can I really load up on the spaghetti?

Carbs aren't bad, in moderation. Just remember that a calorie is a calorie no matter whether it's a carb, protein, or fat, and each one has its own benefit.

I like bodybuilding and I tend to fear carbs and i'm terrified of fat calories. I lift 4 days a week and do my cardio 5 days a week.

I run so that I can eat whatever I want. :D I am a huge potato chip freak, or anything salty and crunchy. I am not a big fan of your traditional carbs such as bread or pasta. Chips have carbs and my favorite beverage has carbs! :D I wonder if my energy level/times would improve if I paid better attention to it. I think I eat too much protein like meats and cheeses. A typical dinner at my house is some type of meat, brown rice or quinoa (my absolute new favorite and I could eat it all day long), spinich salad with some fixings on top, and carrots. I've been trying to be better at drinking 3 glasses of skim milk a day. I guess I don't pay attention to my carbs and I think I should give it a try and see what happens. Maybe I could toast up some whole grain bread for breakfast or something....

lol, I wish I could still say that! I don't whether it's because I'm aging or what, but I can't eat what I used to. In my early 20s I was eating between 4,000 to 6,000 calories a day and was thin. Now I can't even eat 2,000 calories a day without gaining weight. Ugh.:(

Haha tell me about it. I played lacrosse for 4 years and still loss a mass amount of weight while guzzling food like it was my job. Now that i'm not being ordered around to run, its harder and harder to keep in form.

I know what you all mean. I used to be able to eat anything and not gain weight. Now if I just smell a donut I gain weight. It drives me crazy. I try so hard but I still can not seem to get fit again. That is why I am here looking for motivation to get going again.

I think that carbs are a good part of your diet as long as they are done in moderation. You may also want to consider cutting carbs off at a certain time of day. The closer to bedtime that you eat carbs the more likely they are to turn into fat.

Like another member said. In moderation they are fine. Right before a race pasta and noodles etc are a great way to gain energy for the race or just a good running session. So yes. They are good for a racer.

I try not to eat too many carbs but I do eat some. I eat a lot of whole grains though so that they are not just useless carbs that I eat. If you are going to eat pasta a bit give the wheat pasta a try!
