I recently started having a whey protein shake after my runs. I just got the powder mix from GNC and it's their brand that I bought.

Is this benefiting me as a runner? Because I do notice I feel less sore after taking it. Or is it more of a body builder type thing to take?

Any opinions/advice would be great.

Whey is great for fast recovery which will allow you to take your training to the next level and therefore improve your physique and strength. Protein supplementation also ensures you get adequate daily protein intake required for maintaining a positive nitrogen balance which is necessary for muscle growth.
As for quantity, take a serving before and after training (on training days) and on non training days, one upon waking and one mid afternoon (between lunch and dinner).
In order to get leaner, try high intensity interval training. This is commonly used to blitz fat and help to strengthen the cardiac system. It is also very tiring, and can put stress on your immune system, something, that the protein shakes will reduce.

Thanks! Didn't think I was ever going to receive a response!

protein will benefit not only those looking to increase lean muscle mass or strengthen bones, but it also helps those with a weak or compromise immune system. Whey protein is an important nutrient needed by everyone daily. It is made up of essential and non-essential amino acids, which are the "building blocks" for healthy bodies.

Try a morepure source though of it, like Goatien from Gardne of Life or something. I get mine straight from the cow, but you need a pure source, to be honest naything else is processed poorly and full of junk.
