I personally would not be able to stand a watch on my wrist while running, I think I would slow down knowing that I am needing to take time to look at my watch and see how fast I am going.

But then again I guess that it does not really matter for those more longer distance races, its just that I do the 400/800 races and I think a watch would kill you there.

The kind of watch you need depends on the kind of runner you are. If you never race, never do speed sessions and all your runs are leisurely lopes, you don't even need a watch. But most of us - whether we run a mile in 12 minutes or five - like to check our progress at least once in a while.

I think having a watch while running is great ..
It tells you if your doing better or not by comparing times ...

A growing concern among many people in the world is the quality of health and physical training. As it gets easier to eat more and exercise less, it has become vital that individuals have access to a variety of tools to make training as systematic and easy as possible. Due to this, investing in a GPS running watch can make a large difference to runners and joggers, as well as to those who need a physical training program to recover from surgery or disease

I don't like to wear watches. So I set stopwatch on my mobile.

I have a GPS that I got to use when I go kayaking. I also use it for running. That way I can keep track of time and distance I run. I use this to track my progress.

I think when you are running with a watch it slows you down because you are to worried about the splits you are running, and when all you need to do is just go out and run.

I could see having a watch for cross country, but not for track. if you want to know your splits, that's what the coaches are for. It also kind of psyches me out to run with a watch--it just feels weird to me.

I could race without one, but if I need to do a training run of say, 2 hours, I need a watch to know if I've made it that far and can stop...

I am one of the ones that would never be able to stand wearing a watch on my wrist while running. I figure do the best that I can and find out my time at the end, it keeps me motivated to reach the end just to find out how quick I was able to go.
