Does anyone have any fool proof ways of avoiding blisters whilst running long distances.I ran the London Marathon and was plagued by the blighters from about 18 miles onwards.
I was wearing what i thought was correct footwear and double layer socks.

Anyone got any methods of keeping blisters at bay??

I'd go with a single pair of socks. Also try using vaseline or BodyGlide.

The problem seems to be " I was wearing what i thought was correct"

You should test everything before raceday to be certain.

For a marathoner, this may be just a sermon to the choir. But make sure you're not wearing cotton socks. And as CoachLevi said, never, NEVER use something for the first time on race day.

But I would make sure you have decent insoles, and that they aren't worn out. Make sure you haven't exceeded the recommend mileage limit in them & the shoes.

But the main thing I would focus on is the type of socks you are wearing - You need to be able to wick away that moisture, which is very important to keep blisters from forming.
