My middle distance coach told us that we had to run with our shirts on until the temperature reached 75-80 degrees.

Luckily he doesn't enforce this rule :) I think that I run better and feel looser without a shirt on.

Anyone else have a coach like this? What is the real point anyway?

I think that running with your shirt on helps keep body heat in and therefore less pulled muscles. That is just my opinoin though. Or maybe he just wants you to sweat a lot and lose some weight.

Well the ladies prefer it when I have my shirt off so that's what I do.

I think that running with shirt keeps body warm and will also give you more energy and loss of weight ...

I run as a exercise method, but I'd prefer my shirt on so it can kind of soak up the sweat.

But then again, running without a shirt does make you feel more free.

I think its a live and let live kind of issue. Its a free country you should do as you wish. Personally I like running without a shirt. It makes me feel that much faster.

yeah running without a shirt is nice and cool feeling but its different when you are ready to race... sweating shirt makes a difference.

Well since I am a girl I run with my shirt on, otherwise we might have some serious problems. I could not imagine the guys running next to all of us girls without shirts. Can anyone say poptent?

I am right there with you on that one! Although I am pretty jealous of the guys getting to go shirtless on the really hot days and wish that I could join them. Our shool won't let the girls run in joggin bras even. What a pain!

Personally, I prefer a shirt on. Think of the long term. When you finish running, a sweaty shirt would be wet, and your body can soak up the wetness to cool down faster.

I run with a shirt off, or a sleeveless nylon or other non-absorbant fiber material. Cotton absorbs moisture which will eventually just weight one down.

ive never heard that if you run without a shirt that the temp diff hurts you???? anyway i think that the only negitive outcome from it would be that you run a race in hot weather and you would have to deal with the uniform but thats about it. i run w/o a shirt untill it hits 40 feels good
