I'm here, a little weight lifting is perhaps ok to build core strength. I advise lifting only your body weight. Muscle is the densest cells in the body, the less you have the lighter you are, and the faster you can run. You don't see any distance runners that are "buff" do you? The key is to get defined muscles instead of bulky ones.

i suggest doing push-ups, sit-ups and core ads everyday. You build your core strength and as long as u have a strong core your body will better suited for running.

don't weight lift. i started cycling and my legs got bigger but i got slower.the only thing that would make you a better runner is..running=].
the only muscle work that would relaly benifit you and is somthing you should do after every workout is core work out.
cherry pickers, planks ect.

good luck, run happy. =]

In general this is true, but through training anything can be achieved. I used to weight lift 4 hour a day and it did not affect my speed. However, I don't know how dedicated you are to your training. Overall, I put 6 to 8 hours a day into my training. I don't even know if that was detrimental or beneficial :P

if your going to lift...i went out for basketball for almost my whole high school career, (being a senior now), we had a lot of different lifting events. my freshman year we lifted once..and it completely threw my shot off. my sophomore year i didnt lift, and had a wonderful shot. junior year i lifted all the way through ( starting right before basketball) and i had a great shot as well. hope this helps a bit:)
